Going on a picnic.

After our trip to the lake the other day, I left the little cooler in the house after I unpacked it. Then I went to go get it again when we were going grocery shopping.

It appears that my girl is planning a picnic. Looks like we have most of the essentials, the picnic blanket, cake, ice cream, a pear, a camera, some toy cars. But what are those big jugs? And why do we need 2 of them?

Yep. Apple cider vinegar. I don’t have any idea why she’s so excited about this vinegar, but she packed it up for a picnic 3 times before I could get it put away.

Somebody is getting bigger and bigger. She really likes to eat solid food. She still only has the one tooth, but she manages pretty well with her gums.

This one is getting too big, too fast as well.

How cute is this? They are the best of friends, they snuggle and play and crawl all over each other all day. It’s so much fun.

I put a tiny little ponytail in Abby’s hair last night. It was kind of pathetic, there’s only about 20 hairs in there, but so cute.

Fun in the sun.

See this nest? These crazy swallows built their nest on top of the bell for the outside phone. Apparently, it didn’t bother them too much.

Looks like 3 babies, right? WRONG! I went out there the other day and said “hi babies” and 6 of them flew out. They’ve gone now, nest is empty.

It’s been fairly warm some days, so we’ve been trying to get outside and play as much as we can. The other days, it’s stormy and cold, so it’s kind of hard to make plans.

Abby likes the awning on the deck. It really makes a huge difference in how cool the house stays.

“Oh hey. You missed some crumbs here. Let me get that for you.”

Bailey is definitely more into playing with Katie, follows her everywhere but babies definitely have their advantages.

This little girl thinks that it’s the greatest day ever when she gets to play in the sprinkler. Good thing we have a lot of grass to water. I’d take more pictures, but I can’t get her to hold still long enough. The water at this house isn’t as cold as the water at the last house, so it’s a lot better for playing in.

Then we come in, and Katie feeds Abby her supper while I cook for the rest of us. She does a pretty good job at it, and she’s so thrilled to be able to help.

Remember this chubby baby?

She seems to have misplaced her cheeks. I don’t think she’ll ever lose that grin though. Amazing what a couple months of crawling will do for a kid. She’s also gained more than 2 inches in length between these two pictures.

We were at the lake yesterday with some friends. We had a blast. Definitely need to get ourselves a beach umbrella, but we had tons of fun. Katie played in the water, and the sand, and the water some more. She went in up to her armpits and even fell a few times and dunked herself, but she popped right back up and kept on going. Abby ate sand, and chewed on a shovel. She sat in the water for a bit, but then a boat drove by and the waves scared her and we couldn’t talk her into getting back in.

Then somebody dug a hole, and the bucket brigade decided that it needed to be filled.

These girls were so tired that they were both asleep within about 20 minutes of us getting home.

This is me giving up.

I’ve been trying to compose a big post about all the cool things we did when Mom & Dad were here, and it’s just not working. Someone’s very mobile now and likes to grab buttons and cords and everything else she can get her hands on, so my computer time is limited. So here is me, catching up.

I asked Katie what kind of birthday cake she wanted, and she said she wanted a Kitty cake. So I made a big chocolate sheet cake, and drew a cat face on it and let her help decorate, and she thought it was the very best cake ever.

She mixed food coloring with the frosting.

And then we decorated.

Betcha can’t guess which side was hers.

She helped Grammy peel corn.

Opened presents.

And she was so thrilled by the whole singing and blowing out candles process. Can’t you tell? She flat out refused to blow them out herself, but she thought it was terribly funny when I did it for her.

Somebody got sleepy.

Daddy snuggling with two sleepy girls.

It got hot and we played in the yard. There’s actually a sprinkler just outside this shot.

Abby stayed up in the shade.

Somebody messy has decided that she really likes to eat food. So far, her favorites are butternut squash, roasted sweet potato, roast beef and blueberries. She thinks that carrots are appalling. Frankly, so do I.

I took my little crazyhair,

and got her the haircut she’s been asking for for months.

And it is ever so cute, and she looks so grown up now.

There’s a lot of conspiring going on in our house. I think we’re in for it.

What has this dog gotten into?

Hmmm. Maybe it wasn’t the dog.

Yes, that’s right. She colored the dog with sidewalk chalk. And the dog loved every minute of it. Well, except for the part where I made them stop for pictures.

We’ve been bubble blowing.

And TaDa-ing.

And having a grand old time.

And, in case you were interested, we do still have chickens. 4 girls and 2 boys.

Lucy on the left and Fergus on the right, having some scraps.

Ophelia, Agnes and Dolly. On the perch that people told me was too high for chickens to reach.

Felix (and Lucy’s head). Felix is the extra rooster around here. Fergus has much more the personality we’re looking for, so Felix will either go live with someone else, or he’ll become soup. He’s going to be a beautiful bird when his feathers come in, so I’m hoping I can sell him or trade him for another hen.
